CWS celebrates the work begun on the climate change bill, known as the America Power Act. And we urge your help in letting our elected officials know that we care about the state of the world's environment, as much as how the U.S. will fare. We think the Senate can do more with this bill.
As you know, CWS supports sustainable food security, agriculture and water resource programs in some of the world's poorest countries. These areas are affected now by climate change, and the America Power Act comes nowhere near meeting a fair share of adaptation financing for these vulnerable, low-income developing nations.
The legislation offers assistance beginning in 2019. What about right now? The people living in affected places around the world are bearing the brunt of climate change effects right now. They are displaced. Their livelihoods are affected.
Especially urgent is the need for clean water. Climate change has jeopardized access to water needed for food security, health, and basic hydration.
And of course we must be mindful of how we consume. We can remember the adage "re-use, reduce, recycle." Let's commit to modeling this behavior in our families, our churches, our offices, our communities.
Please add your voice via our latest Speak Out alert. For the sake of our children and grand children, I thank you!
