As the search for a lasting and just peace continues in parts of the Middle East, CWS and our partners are assisting people caught in the crossfire. CWS is committed to working toward peace and well-being for neighbors in the Middle East, with our advocacy work, peacebuilding initiatives, sustainable economic development and refugee assistance programs. Church World Service has long-standing and fruitful partnerships with many faith-based and community-based organizations in the Middle East. We learn from them, and they learn from us. Our partners are embedded in the complex political and religious realities of the region, and they inform and advise us on best practices, and we in turn can help them empower their communities to act for change and build better and brighter futures. CWS is working with the Middle East Council of Churches’ Department of Service to Palestinian Refugees, a long-time Church World Service partner, to raise awareness about the plight of civilians in Gaza, and together we have given emergency aid as needed to families in need there, and in the West Bank, Iraq and elsewhere. Whether in lifting up the voices of partners as they cry out for peace or supporting HIV and AIDS awareness training for young women in the region, CWS looks to address as wholistically as possible some of the many complex issues facing the Middle East today. |
