Statement on Honduras With relationships with many local partner organizations stretching back decades, CWS is able to exchange valuable knowledge and tools, empowering families as they struggle to rebuild from natural disaster, fight to reclaim their traditional lands and heritage, or utilize new growing techniques to help keep food on the table year-round. Together with the innovative Chaco Initiative, CWS-supported work in Latin America and the Caribbean is making a vital difference among those in greatest need in the region. Church World Services is partnering in the Latin America and the Caribbean for the rights of vulnerable children, helping campesino families put food on the table every day, and supporting indigenous people and Afro-descendant peoples in the region as they fight for the dignity and rights to which they are entitled. Our partners have years of experience and are rooted in the communities they work in and for. They know where the need is the greatest, and together with them, CWS is empowering families and communities in life-changing ways.
Haiti “I don’t know how many mouths I need to borrow to thank the cooperative,” says Petithomme Lemères. “After I joined, I was able to buy coconuts, corn, beans, things I couldn’t buy before – and I was able to send my kids to school.” CWS is working in partnership to train cooperative leaders, increase credit and loan systems, and provide livestock for families in northwest Haiti.
