Church World Service is a founder and member of the Thailand Burma Border Consortium, which provides food, shelter, and other non-food items to a total of 160,000 refugees from Myanmar (Burma) in nine border camps. Most of these refugees belong to ethnic nationalities targeted for repression by Burma's military regime. CWS supports immediate and long-term aide to these refugees and others, providing humanitarian aid to refugees seeking shelter in camps, and working with congregations and local resettlement offices across the U.S. to find new homes for refugees coming to the U.S. to begin new lives. Church World Service has also has a long-term humanitarian ministry to Afghan refugees in Pakistan. |
