Physician creates a gift annuity because CWS reaches the 'neediest of the needy'

Sitting on her porch, her faithful companion Bonzo by her side, Dr. Lola Reed reflects, "God has been good to me. I have been blessed all my life." Now 93, she credits her happy and fulfilling life to parents who gave her what she says are the four most important gifts a parent can give a child: love, discipline, education and faith. Armed with those gifts, Dr. Reed, who prefers the name "Skip," graduated from medical school and pursued a career in pediatrics.

Sitting on her porch, her faithful companion Bonzo by her side, Dr. Lola Reed reflects, “God has been good to me. I have been blessed all my life.” Now 93, she credits her happy and fulfilling life to parents who gave her what she says are the four most important gifts a parent can give a child – love, discipline, education and faith. Armed with those gifts, Dr. Reed, who prefers the name “Skip,” graduated from medical school and pursued a career in pediatrics.

Throughout her busy years as a pediatrician, Skip was active in church and community, teaching Sunday school, serving as a deacon and an elder of her church, heading up the county United Fund, and serving on numerous civic boards and committees. Skip has been equally generous in support of her charitable interests, including Church World Service, where she has been a longtime benefactor. She says she has been particularly impressed, over the years, by CWS’s response to international relief and development, where the focus is on the “neediest of the needy.”

One way Skip has chosen to support Church World Service is through a charitable gift annuity, which will provide her with secure fixed payments for the rest of her life. Eventually Skip's annuity will create the “Elsie Stover Reed Endowment,” in memory of her mother, whose own joy in giving has inspired Skip throughout her life.  The endowment will provide perpetual income to help CWS reach more people in need.

Are you looking for a source of secure fixed payments in these uncertain economic times? Consider a gift annuity with Church World Service to boost your retirement income. You can turn a CD or other asset that is paying you very little these days into a new source of income for yourself. At the same time, you will provide valuable support for the future work of Church World Service.
