Church World Service extends its condolences, prayers and support for the people of Haiti during this time of national tragedy. Our hearts go out to those who have learned of the death of loved ones and to those who have sustained injury.

Church World Service is providing immediate and essential response to the victims. Staff is in Port-au-Prince; materials are being distributed; kits are being prepared; stories are being shared about the travails of the survivors.

We have also advocated successfully for Temporary Protective Status for Haitians now in the U.S., who may currently have no home to return to. Likewise, we will advocate for debt relief for this impoverished country.

Representing mainline Protestant and Orthodox churches, CWS has had a relationship with Haiti since 1954 and with regional humanitarian partners, participating in relief and development work, including agricultural and construction projects along with medical missions. CWS will also work closely with churches in Haiti that have long been partners in our development efforts.

Church World Service is committed to be part of the long-term recovery effort. Please join us in sharing your financial gifts. Each of us is capable of greatly impacting the recovery effort. In a country where most of the people live in abject poverty, even the most humble gift can make a profound difference. The urgency of our response will make a real difference in sustaining recovery efforts and our Haitian neighbors.

Thank you.
