ImaniHave you ever been to an aquarium?

There you would see that fish come in all kinds of shapes and sizes — like people! But they all have an important role to play in the circle of life. Many of the fish that Mariela, Jaime, and Jhonny eat are pretty small, but they make a big difference in their health. In the same way, even though you may feel small sometimes, you can make a big difference in the world. You can be a tool of hope! What to join in?

DAY ONE: Visit a local pet store or fish market with your parents to learn more about raising fish.

DAY TWO: Use your fish puppet to tell your family about the story of Mariela, Jaime and Jhonny.

DAY THREE: Children in many parts of the world do not have enough to eat. Count the number of canned goods in your kitchen. Give 5 cents for each can.

DAY FOUR: The children in this story must pay a fee to go to school. Though not much, it prevents many from attending. Give 25 cents for each grade of school you’ve completed.

DAY FIVE: Read more about CWS fish culture projects on the web:

DAY SIX: With your parents, write a letter to your Congressperson asking them to help hungry people by supporting self-help development programs like the one in the story.

DAY SEVEN: At dinner with your family pray for all those who do not have enough to eat.
